West Midlands Police have recently issued alerts regarding courier fraud operations in the Sandwell area, which includes Tipton & Great Bridge . These sophisticated scams often target elderly or vulnerable residents by impersonating trusted officials. How the Scam Works The Initial Call: You receive a phone call from someone pretending to be a police officer or a bank official. The "Problem": They claim your bank account has been compromised, you have been a victim of identity theft, or they need your help with an undercover investigation. The "Solution": They instruct you to withdraw large sums of cash, purchase expensive items like gold or jewellery, or provide your bank cards and PINs.The Courier: A fake courier is then sent to your home to collect the cash or items, claiming they will take them to the police or a "safe place". Warning Signs & Police Advice Verify Identity: Fraudsters may ask you to hang up and call 999 or 101 to verify their story. They stay on the line so that when you dial, you are still talking to them or an accomplice. Wait at least 10 minutes or use a different phone to make any verification calls.Official Policy: The police and banks will NEVER:- Ask for your bank PIN or full password over the phone.
- Ask you to withdraw or transfer money to a "safe account."
- Send a courier to your home to collect cash, cards, or valuables.
Caller ID: Do not trust the name or number displayed on your phone; scammers can easily manipulate (spoof) these details. Thank you from your Tipton & Sandwell team
